Kubla Con

Last weekend I had so much fun at Kubla Con. I missed it last year, so I was really itching to get my geek on. Still, it took me a while to get into it. I skipped out on Friday night and went to see X-Men 3 instead (so awesome). On Saturday, I was only there for a few hours playing board games. I played a HP Lovecraft game and a Halloween Trick-or-treating game. Both were so much fun I ended up buying them. Then I left early to goto Char's graduation after-party. We all went to a lounge in Foster City. It was nice, but I felt like such a youngin. Almost everyone was older than me. I'd say the average age was early 30s (is that my future?). Still, we had fun. Now when I go out, I like dancing with the group, so it's very rare I'll break off and dance with someone else, but this time some girl came up and started dancing, so I started dancing with her and talking. After a few minutes, Dina came up and got all over me saying, "Oh nobody's dancing with Jeremy." She totally didn't see the girl! Now talk about an embarassing moment. It turned out the girl was pretty boring, and I ended up dancing with her for only a few more minute, but still... =)

Anyways, after dancing, I crashed at my parents' place and woke up at 8am to go back to geeking it up. Sunday was my RPG day. I started out playing Serenity (I hate Fox for canceling the best shows of all time). I was hoping to play Jane, Mel, or Zoe, but ended up with Book. Now if anyone knows much about me and about Serenity, they'll realize that I am Book is the character I am least like out of the entire crew, so it was a bit of a challenge. The game was tons of fun, and the GM was really great. He built the table with the ship in the center, so we got to move our miniatures over the the ship as opposed to a normal battle mat.

After Serenity, I headed to Trader Joe's for a lunch break before coming back to play in Joe's Yakuza game. It was much better than the Italian Mafia game he ran 2 years ago, and if we had more than a 4 hour timeslot, we probably would've finished it. We got pretty close, and it had the feel of Joe's games that I've come to love and appreciate.

I ended the day with another Cthulhu game that looked interesting. Everyone was a member of a supernatural investigation team, and the game started at the end of an adventure. Three members of the team are infected with a disease that causes massive sanity loss and eventually results in a beast hatching from their brain, but the best part is the distrust and infighting that results. The GM did a wonderful job designing the player's backstories and neuroses, and all the players did a great job acting on them. The game rean pretty late; I finally got into bed around 4:30.

With just about 5 hours of sleep, I wandered back to the convention, bought some goodies from the dealer's room and wandered into a 7th Sea game in the open gaming room. I'm so glad I decided to stick around on Monday because 7th Sea was tons of fun, and now I might have a regular gaming group... well atleast through the end of summer =)
