So Serenity opened today. I was supposed to see it at a prescreening on Tuesday, but they overbooked the theatre, and apparently getting there 90 minutes beforehand wasn't enough... heh...
Anyways, I did get to see it today at matinee with Joe, and it was SO AWESOME! You need to see this movie, but do yourself a favor and watch Firefly on DVD before going. Oh so awesome... today was definitely a good day!
I am so grateful that the world doesn't follow the lead of the US in stem cell research. At least somebody's making progress despite our government's best efforts...
I haven't been too great on keeping up to date on my personal bloggings... so...
Yesterday, we had a great softball game. We had exactly 10 players, so everyone got to play every inning, and Alexandra's friend Andy joined our team as well. He played a great 2B and is a solid hitter. We ended up getting our first team win =), so now we're 1-1! One of my hits was out of the park (yay!), but because it was to center, it only counted for a triple, but I got hit in by the next batter, so I'll pretend it was a homer for myself =)
After the game, Tom, Dominica, and I went over to Alexandra's to watch TV. I wanted to bake desert, so I went to Andronicos to get some eggs and butter for brownies (yum yum). They were SO DELICIOUS! Anyways, I didn't get home in time to do my homework, but it's no biggie...
Well, it has certainly been much harder to deal with than I originally expected. Who'd've thought 20hrs/wk TAing, 30hrs/wk with GenUX, and 8 units would be too much to handle... well it is... I've just taken on too much, and that's not good. I talked with La Shanna today, and she said that I can't go below the 8 unit minimum, but I could do research units instead of a class, and that would actually work out well if I can get Dan to give me 2 research units for designing the graphics class instead of doing it in 302. 302 is great, but it's too fast paced for a sequence class like this.
Ok, I've put together an alpha release of compiler-config-2.0. This is a replacement for gcc-config which is alot more configurable
Some notable improvements over gcc-config-1.3.x:
GCC_SPECS and PATH are nolonger set in /etc/env.d/05gcc. Instead, that info is in the config files and extracted by the wrapper. Users can have their own settings rather than use the system compiler. Multilib archs will be able to have more control over the compilers used for each ABI. For example, you can install x86_64-*-gcc-3.4.4 and i686-*-gcc-3.3.6 and choose to use either 3.4.4 or 3.3.6 when compiling code with i686-*-gcc
My laptop had been going down the toilet for the past 2 years now. At first, the video card would display artifacts on the screen or any attached monitor, and this was a minor annoyance that seemed to go away after doing various forms of voodoo magic. As time progressed, however, it became increasingly difficult to get rid of the distortion, and finally about 2 months ago, the video output became completely unusable (basically all white with a few random artifacts). Nothing could be made out on the screen! So, I did what any resourceful computer geek in my position would do: I turned it into a headless router for my apartment. It served me quite well in this fashion for the past two months. I even used it for hosting this blog and a ut2004 server that we used on occasion, but this morning at 3am pacific, I awoke to the sound that sends shivers down my spine: the click of a failing hard drive. The laptop finally bit the bullet. I can't justify buying a new laptop drive for a system with a dead display, so now it joins the collection of miscellaneous crap that litters my closet...
Now I'm generally a nice, pleasant guy, and as a guy, I tend to be of the mind that cutting off a man's... well... pleasure center is a bit harsh, but damnit some assholes deserve it.
What the fuck gets into some guys minds that they can just assault a woman walking down the street? How does behavior like that become acceptable in the mind of a grown man? Shit like that is NOT tolerable!
Yesterday, a close friend of mine was assaulted just a block away from my house when she was coming over. I went out with her to look for him, but we couldn't find the asshole, so we filed a police report. He had his keys out which gives the indication that he lives or often parks nearby, and luckily she got a pretty good description of the guy... well enough that I'm going to be on the lookout for this creep whenever I go for a walk around the neighborhood.

I signed up for 'CPR For The Professional Rescuer' and 'First Aid' at the Red Cross in preparation for my EMT class this summer. I'm a little nervous about it, but I'm definitely looking forward to it =). Mischa said that many people taking the class are doing it for career training, but I'm taking it just so I can feel confident that I will be helpful and know what to do in an emergency.
Other than that, summer's pretty much open. I've been spending a lot of time organizing my music collection (Deciding generes is driving me crazy for some bands/artists), hanging out with friends, and generally enjoying the nice weather.
