Creative genius

This article points out a very interesting fact that I can now add to the score board of "why women are evil".

Damn females keeping the men down.

In other news, I have yet another instance of my "curse". Yesterday, they moved me to a different wing with a bigger desk, couches, and other things, and in this wing, there was a cute girl, so I introduced myself, and we talked briefly before I headed back to work. A dew hours later, I saw her hanging out with another guy during dinner, and well... yeah...

So that now makes at least 6.

Day 2

Well I'm tired, so I'll keep this brief.

Day 2 was more of the same... with a focus on MORE. I finished working on a shot that took WAY longer than it should have... oh, and did I mention we had a power failure... yeah that sucked big time... but in the down time I was able to setup my voice mail and pick up a security badge for 'Jeremy Heddleston'... DOH! I can't believe they spelled my name wrong on my security badge... oh well...

Yesterday, I put in a 10 hour day with 1.5 hours of lunch on the company (new hire free lunch). Today, I was at work for 12 hours and worked through lunch. The Webster tube closes at 9pm, and if I miss it, it takes me an extra 30 minutes to get home, so I left at 8:50. When I got home, I submitted an ebuild to gentoo for a package I wanted but wasn't in portage, watched an episode of Seinfeld and am going to sleep soon.

And so it begins...

And so it begins...
There is a hole in your mind.
What do you want?
No one here is exactly what he appears.
Nothing's the same any more.
Commander Sinclair is being reassigned.
Why don't you eliminate the entire Narn homeworld, while you're at it?
I see a great hand reaching out of the stars.
Who are you?
President Clark has signed a decree today declaring martial law.
These orders have forced us to declare independence.
...Weapon supplies...
...Unless you people get off your encounter-suited butts and do something.
You are the one who was.
If you go to Z'Ha'Dum, you will die.
Why are you here? Do you have anything worth living for?

Last Chance Cafe

Maybe depressed isn't the best description of my mood, but it is indeed a start...

I am very excited that I did indeed get the job working on Matrix: Revolutions, but there are major down points to the job. Firstly, they can not guarantee that my name will make it into the credits because it all depends on how much text space the studio gives our company. Secondly, I'll be working insane hours, and I won't be able to enjoy my summer with my friends as I had hoped to. This last point is what has been bothering me the most.

Ever since I found out about the job, I've been careful to enjoy my time to the fullest... doing things "for the last time". I feel like I'm loosing a great deal of freedom with this job, and I am very sad about that. I never realized just how social I have become.

ESC - Part 2

So... ESC just called, and they made me a "What If". It was basically an offer, but it wasn't an official offer. Instead of going through tons of legalese paperwork to send out an official "offer", they first wanted to contact me with an unofficial offer before putting everything in writing... well, their "what if" was much better than I expected, so i said yes... I will miss having a social life, though... This Sunday is the Playoffs/Championships for my Softball League, and I'll definitely miss playing with them next season...

I was talking to Jim about this, and he had a great point... with the September deadline, I have an excellent opportunity to quit (if I want) and take some time off and then finish up school in the Spring... also, they may be willing (or even glad) to give me reduced hours so that I can finish up...

ESC

Well, the interview at ESC seemed to go pretty well... I'll know by Tuesday just how well it actually went. I'm a little scared about the prospect of loosing my summer and starting a job at 70 hours a week... plus this job doesn't terminate at the end of summer. It's not an internship, it's an actual job with a 401K, health, dental, and LIFE insurance. This is freakin' scary. Am I ready to commit to such a life-changing decision? Am I ready to drop out of college? Sure this is something that happened a lot during the dot com boom, but some how it feels different for me... have I lost perspective? How much am I going to sell out my degree for? I know I can always come back to finish my degree later...

Rebublican "bullshit"

The following exchange took place at the Chicago airport between Robert I. Sherman of American Atheist Press and George Bush, on August 27 1987. Sherman is a fully accredited reporter, and was present by invitation as a member of the press corps. The Republican presidential nominee was there to announce federal disaster relief for Illinois. The discussion turned to the presidential primary:

RS:
"What will you do to win the votes of Americans who are atheists?"
GB:
"I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me."
RS:
"Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?"

Employment

I have an interview with escfx next week for assistant technical director =). I may be in the credits for Matrix Revolutions!!!

YEAH!!!! I AM SO SUPER HAPPY!!!

I no longer even care that I spent 10 hours last night recovering data from my hard drives after a power outage that killed my RAID...

Pickupability

According to spark.com, I am 2% pickup-able... so... yeah... sigh...

Game development

So, last week, I met up with Steve to discuss designing a video game. We planned out some stuff, and I came home and started working on the game engine. Right now, I've completed the sound engine, and I've started working on the game database. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much the only one with spare time to work on the project... Catherine's going to be in Europe, and Steven's got a lot on his plate as well. I was really looking forward to working on a game this summer... especially since it's been a while since I've done any substantial coding... Luckily, I've stumbled across planeshift. It's a MMORPG (like Everquest) being developed by a small (read: needing more volunteers) group of open source developers, so I've started helping them out with development.
